The Dream Couple

Hey! This could be the start of my cine-blog where I share my views on cinema. I will try and keep this minimal and crisp. I am not writing to show off my expertise in the language, just simply finding a way to get my thoughts out there!

So, the title would make it seem like it is either about a hero-heroine couple or couple goals in general. The dream couple of Tamil Cinema according to me is and will always be, Kamal Hassan - Crazy Mohan.

"Bayangara Shock-u!
What?
Oru 440 watt irukkum"

I am pretty sure if you have even the slightest of knowledge in Tamil Cinema, you'd instantly agree with me. If you have no idea as to who these two legends are, you would know their work for sure:-

"Landing gear-a naan, kazhatti vittuten naa, theeviravaaaaaddhiiii..."

Well, they quite literally cut off the landing gear for any other comedian who relies on wordplay or intellectual humour and became the king of the hill in the genre.

Charlie Chaplin told the audience a wonderful joke and all the people started laughing... Charlie repeated the same joke and only a few people laughed..???? He again repeated the same joke but this time no one laughed...?????? Then he said these beautiful lines... "when you cannot laugh on the same joke again and again...then why do you cry again and again on the same worry.""

I am pretty sure you've all heard or seen this saying somewhere or the other. But this dynamic duo broke all stereotypes and made us laugh at the same joke for the 100th time. I mean don't tell me you can sit through Panchathantiram with a straight face.

"Pazhamozhi sonna anubavikkanum da, aaraaya koodadhu"

Even though all of it is scripted, I feel as though it is performed live with tons of on the spot improvisations. I mean who can write an entire scene with just Munnadi and Pinnadi and nail it?

Not just plain humour, this combo is capable of delivering meaning as well as thought-provoking sayings equally well through humour.

" Kadavul illainu Solraan paar...Avana nambalam...
Kadavul iruku'ndraan paar...Avana kooda nambalam...
Aanaa Naan dhaan Kadavul'ndraan paar...
Avana mattum nambidaadha...Pootacase aayiduva "

It is almost impossible to deliver organic humour without resorting to double meanings, not only have they mastered this but have done so in style with the mere use of words.

A few samples:-

" I mean what I mean.
But, they can't be so mean.
Enna, ellam meen meen nra "

" Thick-u friends aaytaanga "

" Avasara pattu neeye en keep nu confirm panra?
Keep thaan, adhaan Anand ku left le poraale,
namba oorula keep left thaane"

" Airport le aircraft irukku, aircraft le...
It's an engine... aambala engine...
I mean male engine...
Upper deck le, you know it's getting too technical.. "

" Dei doctor
Dei aa?
Illa ivaru day doctor, avaru night doctor, duty mudinju poraaru "

" Ungalukku thaan ivaru mudhaliyar, enakku mudhaliyaaro "

Even though Crazy Mohan is no more, he will live forever in our hearts through his works and will always be the best humour factory according to me.

Also, I am in love with the funky names crazy comes up with Eg, Choolai Jabamani, All in all Anantharaman, Afterall Aravumudhan, Pammal K Sammandham, Aruvaa Nagarajan, Avvai Shanmugam, etc.,
