GTM! GoTo Movies ;)

We watch movies for a multitude of reasons, ranging from entertainment to "Hey, I'm gonna watch this movie no matter how bad it is because my favourite artist is in it", in other words, Kannism.

However, most of us have this habit of rewatching a film to distract us from the crap life throws at us, we feel happy watching the movie. That, in my words, is a GTM! Also known as feel-good movies, these films have a soul in them that puts us in a zone of comfort and is an equivalent of a warm hug of familiarity.

I am going to write about a few of my GTMs which I hope you would be able to resonate with or give it a shot when you're feeling low or even happy :)

The list keeps fluctuating based on my surroundings and situations but I am going to discuss 5 constants from this list in no particular order.

Endrendrum Punnagai (2013) - Zee5 (Stream)

This is a riot of a movie that screams feel good from start to end. Beyond the humour, the film subtly conveys the importance of being compassionate and shedding off the ego and grudges we hold for no good reason. Harris' music is the cherry on top and is absolutely soulful.

If the above reasons don't suffice, would you look at that?

Pannaiyarum Padminiyum (2014) - Amazon Prime (Stream)

This is a rather underrated gem that a lot of you might not have watched. Please do!
Love comes in many forms and this movie has portrayed it perfectly. Mild humour, love for a vehicle, a subtle love between an old couple touched me. This is one of my all-time favourite movies and I'd recommend this strongly.

Nala Damayanti (2003) - KTV (Not available to stream :/)

" Come in darling open the door! "

This line is enough to crack me up. The movie is light at heart even though it deals with a lot of seriousness and stereotyping. Mouli's dialogues and direction is extremely effective in making us laugh as well as think. I've rewatched this over 20 times and it never felt draggy or repetitive.

        Mozhi (2007) - Kalaignar TV / YouTube

Textbook feel-good film. This is kind of a given and I'm sure a lot of us have this on the list of our GTMs. Amazing music, humour, love, life, it's got it all. Makes us realise the value of life and somehow puts a smile on our face.

Kandukondein Kandukondein (2000)- KTV ( Not available to stream :/)

An absolute delight of a movie. Similar premises to Mozhi where it depicts the hardships of life in a light-hearted manner. The music is out of the world and probably the only movie to pack so many good looking artists and make you go uwuwuwu.

        Kamal-Crazy Combo

Yes, I did mention 5 constants but pretty much every collab between these two legends have resulted in laughter riots and is definitely a serotonin refill for me.
I've detailed this in a previous article, in case you've not gotten a chance to read it, here it is.

There are a lot more comforting films but I will always cherish these movies :)
